This newsletter received a huge influx of new subscribers. I am not sure why, but it is nice. Thank you.
Here is super-short recap of my active work and goals here at Stop and Think:
Every Friday I publish a podcast via TheHeart.org called This Week in Cardiology. It’s a 20-30 minute recap of the week’s top stories in cardiology. A partial transcript is here. You can find it on any podcast app. Here is the Apple Podcast link.
Every Monday, I publish a Study of the Week column over at the Sensible Medicine substack. The goal of these are to highlight a medical study that illustrates an important concept of critical appraisal. This week, I wrote about a curious finding regarding a common medication used in patients with heart failure.
I also publish other content on Sensible Medicine. This includes written and audio work. Today, I published a conversation with Paul Dorian, a Canadian cardiologist who has published extensively on the matter of sudden cardiac death in athletes. Next week, I will publish a conversation with Soren Diederichsen—an established author in the screening for atrial fibrillation space.
Here at Stop and Think, I write about medical evidence that makes you stop and think. Take a look through the archives.
I also practice electrophysiology full time. And publish in the academic literature.
My most recent work is an editorial in The Lancet. We argue against the recent recommendation from the European Society of Hypertension to make beta-blockers first-line therapy for hypertension. It’s a bad idea. That link is free till Dec 2
Nothing here at Stop and Think has ever been behind a paywall. Some have decided to support my work. Thank you for that. JMM
And your work is so appreciated by me and others - it’s a jungle out there and it’s helpful to have a guide such as yourself. With my gratitude 😊🙏
Thank you for sharing the beta blocker article.
